A family business from day one, now looking ahead to the next decade
Malmesbury, South Africa - Shelby South Africa opened its doors ten years ago, bringing the iconic American performance brand to South African roads for the first time. A decade on, the family business remains one of Shelby American's most established markets outside the United States.
Peter Lindenberg, a motorsport veteran, founder and CEO of Lindenberg Racing, set his sights on securing the Shelby franchise for South Africa, working alongside Jim Price of Hi-Tech Automotive and Djurk Venter. Shelby American approved the venture, and the first South African team travelled to Las Vegas for training at the brand's home facility.
Shelby South Africa officially launched on 9 July 2016, with its head office and Mod Shop based in Malmesbury, Western Cape. Demand for the Shelby GT and Super Snake was immediate, and the business soon expanded its offering with new derivatives, including the GTE, to meet growing local interest.
Since then, Shelby South Africa has expanded its portfolio through the Terlingua upgrade package and distribution rights for the Cobra, Daytona and Ford GT40 via the Superformance heritage range. In 2025, the business launched Team Shelby South Africa, giving owners, who already enjoyed track days and breakfast runs, the opportunity to compete in alternative motorsport events.
"What stands out after ten years isn't any specific car. It's the community we've built around this brand. From the workshop in Malmesbury to the owners out on track, Shelby in South Africa has grown into something our whole family is proud of."
Peter Lindenberg, CEO of Shelby South Africa
Peter, together with his daughters Chiara Temple (née Lindenberg) and Paige Lindenberg, leads Shelby South Africa's day-to-day operations, overseeing brand strategy, customer engagement and alignment with Shelby's global standards. Both daughters have been involved with the business since its inception, working alongside their father.
Lindenberg Racing's motorsport legacy has long run alongside Shelby's, with success campaigning the Daytona Coupe, GT40 and Shelby GT across almost 50 years of racing. Paige Lindenberg and James Temple now bring that experience directly to Team Shelby South Africa, the brand's customer racing team.
Today, Team Shelby South Africa includes six members who most recently competed at the Simola Hillclimb, alongside a growing calendar of alternative motorsport events across the country.
Over the past decade, Shelby South Africa has completed more than 70 Shelby conversions, ranging from unique, bespoke builds to licensed performance upgrades. Every vehicle carries its own authenticated CSM (Carroll Shelby Motors) number, preserving its authenticity and place in Shelby history.
As Shelby South Africa celebrates ten years of performance, passion and heritage, the company remains focused firmly on the future, with family still at the wheel.
